Consumer Step Book
You will create a step book to help you organize and classify consumers by their role in the food chain.
Creating the Step Book
· Take four sheets of 8½- by 11-inch copy paper.
· Lay the four sheets on top of each other so that ¾-inch strips of the back pages show at the bottom
· Bend the tops of the pages backward to reveal ¾-inch strips of panels 5, 6, 7, and 8
· Fasten the top with two staples.
Completing the Step Book
· On the cover panel, use creative lettering to write a title, “Amelia’s Step Book of Consumers and the Food Chain”
· On the bottom, panel 8, write the title “Prey.” On panel 7, write the title “Herbivore.”
· On each of the other strips, write—in ascending order—the titles “Secondary Consumers,” “Scavengers,” “Predators,” “Carnivores,” and “Tertiary Consumers.”
· Lift the cover panel to reveal panel 2. On the underside of the cover panel, write a definition of the term “Tertiary.” In the area above the title strip for this panel, list the names of a variety of consumers from all biomes including mammals, reptiles, and birds.
· Repeat this step with each flap of the step book. Glue to yellow construction paper when completed.
