Now-and-Then Contrast Book of the First Continental Congress
· Write “The First Continental Congress” under the eighth domino of their Cause-and-Effect Title Page.
· To better understand the importance of the First Continental Congress, examine world events today. Research current boycotts and sanctions against other countries and contrast them with the boycotts that occurred as a result of the First Continental Congress.
CREATING THE NOW-AND-THEN CONTRAST BOOKS
· Use the Now and Then template and a sheet of construction paper. Cut the template in half along the vertical dotted line.
· Fold the two sheets of paper in half along the dashed line so that the words “Then” and “Now” appear on the cover of each.
· Glue the back of each sheet to the piece of construction paper. (The “Then” sheet should be on the left.)
· Use creative lettering to write the title “The First Continental Congress” under the word “Then.” Lift the flap and write a complete paragraph describing the 5 Ws of this event.
· Write a title under the word “Now” that describes a current world situation involving the use of tactics similar to those used by the First Continental Congress.
· Under that flap, write a paragraph that focuses on the 5 Ws of this event.
· Write a title such as “Boycotts Then and Now” across the top of the page.
